after further messing round with it noticed a further problem
the keyboard will move around
/dev/input/eventX and /dev/input/eventY
X and Y are consecutive at all times
However I've had them on 1,2 2,3 and 3,4 at different boots so
I'm not too sure about a good way of determining this automatic
Be warned because of .Xmodmap this will interfere with gnome-setting-manager
making the
crash reporter think that gnome-settings-manager has crashed
however it actually hasn't
to paraphrase the error message "cant run more than one xsettings
manager"
