I confirm the bug and the previous workaround did NOT solve the problem:
"sudo apt-get purge php5-mcrypt && sudo apt-get install php5-mcrypt does
not resolve this issue."
This does solved it:
Check if mcrypt is not enabled:
root@prod:/etc/php5/mods-available# php -m | grep mcrypt
Symlinks to
sudo apt-get purge php5-mcrypt && sudo apt-get install php5-mcrypt does
not resolve this issue.
