I also receive this issue. It was booting fine on Ubuntu 14.10 and I did a dist-upgrade. Following the dist-upgrade, Ubuntu would fail to boot. When entering recovery mode, I found the boot froze on the exact same lines as in the OP. I have a core i5-520m and a Radeon 5650M. I tested kernel 3.1
