I believe I am seeing the same problem in LiVES
(http://lives.sourceforge.net). Something is very odd with custom expose
events in GTK+ 3.10. If the problem is fixed in GTK+ 3.12 then the
version should be updated ASAP.

I ran a simple experiment to find out if the bug is fixed in a later release of
GTK.
The answer is YES.
I installed gtk 3.12 using the PPAs gnome3-team and ricotz.
The bug is gone.
