Try switching off/on any USB device or inserting a new USB device before
using the external burner.

I installed Intrepid a month back or so, and this is the first time I
try to use k9copy since then. I used k9copy previously with the same
hardware on Gutsy, it worked fine.
My DVD units are both internal, so I'm afraid I cant test turning them
off.

I am getting a similar error when I launch k3b. The entire system hangs
(except the mouse cursor moves slowly). I have a similar internal drive,
the TS-H552U. Attached is an excerpt of the kernel trace in my syslog.

Around all of these issues, once the blank media is recognized, it does
indeed create a disk... A data CD at least.
