Fixed in xenial. This issue can be closed, as not appearing in currently
maintained distributions.

Upstream says the fix is in more recent versions, but could be
backported:

(stable-) released as 3.12.0 only. The patch can be backported by
respective distribution maintainers.

The issue is unfortunately hard to reproduce these days, since it
happens less often than at the time of first bug report. Still appears
sometimes on different installations/machines.

Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers

the binary is part of libevolution package, so changed package
accordingly:
$ dpkg -S evolution-alarm-notify
libevolution: /usr/lib/evolution/3.8/evolution-alarm-notify
$ aptitude why libevolution
