I have a related issue.
There is also a 88SE9485 controller on the
ASUS P9A-I/C2550/SAS/4L (Intel Avoton) Server Motherboard also.

@Tim: Ben replied around the 18th of Februari that he sent the patch upstream
again (for the third time).
I would like for this patch to make it to the next LTS version of Ubuntu, do
you think there is a chance this will happen?

(FYI: The SATA controller on my system is
Maarten - I am not sure what problem you are attempting to address. It
appears that your SATA control is being detected by AHCI at 6 Gps:
