I use a fresh feisty (updated)
gdl installs a firefox extension automatically which can't be uninstalled
unless you uninstall gdl.
I fixed the problem deactivating the firefox extension, however I lose gdl
integration with firefox (which means I lose gdl)

version, gcc/glibc/libstdc++ version
are you seeing crashes constantly? each time once it's started?

I'm not trying to argue with you. This is a Google-bug, sure! But, the
fact that a Firefox extension (yes, the app comes with an extension and
this is the cause of the crash) can bring down the whole Firefox browser
doesn't look so good.
This is like saying that an user-space application can corru
forgot to add this to last post.
google-desktop is not a firefox add on nor extension nor a plugin it is a
Desktop application it has no relationship with firefox at all

No log message, no warning, no automatic disable of the bad extension or
some other more intelligent approach ?

google-desktop and we can not support google desktop. Please file a bug
with them.
