In order to prove that this is not just an XFS problem I filed a new bug
#1231710 and here's what I started with:
lance@lance-desktop:~$ sudo parted -l
[sudo] password for lance:
Model: ATA WDC WD800BB-63JK (scsi)
Disk /dev/sda: 80.0GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: ms
I had no xfs partition on that machine (that I know of). When it
happens again I will grab try to remember to grab the logs. It does not
happen every time though. Which file is needed? syslog?

Probably needs to be either a generic bug or specific ones per
filesystem.
I mistakenly me too'd this one and commented here - I was definitely
using ext4.

The log files indicate an error while trying to read an XFS partition
already existing on one of the disks on the system.
