I encountered that bug one time, when I was experimenting with Ubuntu.
Almost immediately after that I installed PCLINUXOS which I prefer. I
have installed/reinstalled Ubuntu and PCLINUXOS a few times since then,
for experimental reasons, but never encountered that bug again. I
prefer PCLINUXOS

I noticed this bug was last updated on 2007-06-20. Are you able to try the
isntall of any of the Gutsy releases? if so did they work or still have the
problem?
Could you please update the status of thsi bug with further information?

I can add some information to the latest comment:
- An integrity check of the medium did not find any errors
- A hardware check (memory) did not find any errors
- The filesystem errors were "SquashFS: unable to read inode" and some others,
about 8 times for every command

I guess I have experienced the same bug:
Booted Kubuntu Live CD 7.04 on an Acer laptop, 512 Mb memory.
No crash, all _seemed_ to go well, but:
- No window indicating success or anything
- Grub was not installed on the hard disk
- In konsole, typeing something like 'www' didn't give "-bash: www: c
Should be ok for the moment to assign it to ubiquity. But Jonathan,
please keep in mind that ubiquity isn't involved if the bug author used
the alternate text-based installer.
