I had changed Gtk+ Theme to Adwaita and it seemed better but many things became
unreadable including Ubuntu Software Center.
When looking at that I could not tell one thing from another as I could not see

Yes, it doesn't affect Adwaita, because it doesn't use gradient for
gnome-panel. Installed gnome-themes-standard, changed gtk theme to
adwaita, gnome-panel got simple black color as background.

I believe this is not really a GTK bug (even though it probably was
triggered by the GTK 3.8 update) because it doesn't affect the Adwaita
theme.
New GTK versions do break GTK themes but I'm not sure anythi
