I just confirmed with ps -ef | grep lxpanel that it is in fact running
with --profile Lubuntu. This is born out by the fact that the panel
retains all my customizations.

I think it has something to do with the fact that when lxpanel restarts,
it's not run with the '--profile Lubuntu' option, which presumably
describes what's in the menu.
