Confirmed with 7.04 on Dell Inspiron 6400 with Core 2 Duo 5XXX, ATI
X1400. The 64Bit CD works. i386 fails without any message.

I can confirm what Matthew Specker says:
"Alt install cd locks up during package installation. Screen displays
multi-colored lines and boxes and install freezes." (HP DV6426)
Also, I experienced this same problem using the newest Debian Netinst
CD. I am assuming the problems are related...
