I can confirm that the upgrade to 3.2.0-41-generic (on a 64-bit system)

I would ignore Haraldx mouse comment as I tired it on my Lenovo W500
and it appeared to work but then found that my mouse wasn't connected!
I then saw that 3.2.0-41-generic-pae was available so I upgrated and
restarted and it worked first time. I admit it was only once but it
never booted with 3.
Strange observation. I tried this now several times: if I keep moving
the mouse while booting, it works (4 tries). If I leave the machine
alone, I get a black screen (2 tries) on my Lenovo T500. May still be
just luck.

On my Acer TimelineX, I have the same problem as that described above.
However, it doesn't occur all of the time with the new 3.2.0-40-generic

Booting with "nomodeset" works but then the resolution gets fixed at a
very low value. So this problem must have a connection with the Intel
graphics driver.
