It was with the Gnome setting. I had to install the kde system dialog to
be able to adjust sound settings without triggering the above-mentioned
bug. Meanwhile this seems to have been solved though. Probably with
updates? Now I can open the Gnome settings dialog without problem.

I confirm I have the same problem.
I had to uninstall gnome-control-center with synaptic and have the kde
systemsettings instead.
It must come from an update during the last days (but before today, since I
noticed the bug before downloading the last upgrade)
