I think this problem has returned with 10.10 (synaptic 0.63.1ubuntu14)
I ran into this problem with 9.04 or 9.10, cant remember which but
haven't seen it with 10.04
But I have just had the same thing happen with 10.10 with all updates
applied as of 3rd Nov.
I had simply set synaptic - preference
I found a workaround while a fix don't is released
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=979782). there is a synaptic.conf
file in /root/.synaptic/ which u can only access with root (no sudo here!) here
u can manually configure ur synaptic preferences! once saving it u have the
preferences
This bug affect me too. I try change my proxy config directly in synaptic and
it freeze.
I'm using Karmic Koala.
