exist? One would install Xubuntu and then read Ubuntu and get all
confused and eventually boot in Xubuntu anyway. It's such an easy fix so
it shouldn't be worth the confusion.

If you have several flavors installed, what do you propose to do? (e.g.,
introducing a priority system to decide what *ubuntu
@Micah: But if you installed Xubuntu then you expect Xubuntu in the GRUB
menu. Other flavors like Bodhi Linux also call themselves by name in the
GRUB menu even though they're based on Ubuntu as well. So IMHO your
argument is invalid for Xubuntu; for Mint you're right, they should fix
that themselv
Linux Mint is not a part of the Ubuntu Archive. I would not want the
flavors fighting for precedence in the GRUB menu. Right now, all the
flavors should be able to happily co-exist on an installed system. The
same kernel is shared by all except for Ubuntu Studio.

@micahg: but Linux Mint, which uses the Ubuntu kernel as well, manages
to be identified in the Grub menu as Linux Mint Maybe Xubuntu can
somehow use the same trick as Mint?

The GRUB menu references the kernel which in this case is an Ubuntu
kernel. One does not boot into a Xubuntu kernel, but selects Xubuntu as
the Desktop Environment when logging in. Please report any other issues
you may find.
