I seem to remember shipping a default theme has been discussed before
but there seem to be trouble with the licensing since it's apparently
not possible to create a theme using only open source tools (can anyone

Maybe we could ship with _links_ to a few common themes?

Well if not change default, Ubuntu could still ship an optional theme.
Also with themes, the widgets could be themed to look more like the theme from

I'm wondering if this is a sane thing to do. LOTS of Windows

Yeah, they use colors differently, but you still need up-to-date
information from the GTK theme itself to know which colors it's
currently using. A static list of colors won't work, since the theme
can be changed by the user.
Since each theme engine can use the GTK colors however it wants, you

A Wine theme engine can't match the widgets and decorations of a GTK

Okay, so why don't we start by creating a Default.theme (using the default
wine Window-ish colors) and Human.theme that is in the same format as the
reg files, and have wineconf read that? If memory serves correctly, the
settings are saved to ~/.wine/u
No, not yet implemented, it was just a discussion.
BTW Picasa tried theme color scraping, it was spectacularly ugly, so we
stopped.
The Wineconf "tracking themes" proposal mentioned by Scott is much more
promising.
