I am unable to reproduce this with 2.44-1 and I believe this to be true
for earlier versions as well. I suspect user error as the nautilus
interface is not too clear.
Can you please send a screenshot?

It is impossible to select any other file/folder beside the home folder
navigating through nautilus interface.
However there is a workaround: Write the desired path with the keyboard
(e.g. /home/user/Documents/Folder)

This is also the case on mine, Ubuntu 12.10. With both the latest and
dev versions. If you use the command line to specify the directory it is
working fine but you can not use the mouse in the GUI to select the
directory.
