restored to stock Ubuntu 12.10: Wifi and battery status are showing fine
now
The values look fine once the desktop has booted.
I do see this from 'dmesg | grep battery' though...

With the upstream kernel v3.8-rc2-raring, no joy with the battery, nor any WiFI.
I updated to 12.10, so will restore the kernel to the version packaged with
that and re-test

v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
