For anyone who still cares, I've come across something of a workaround. As was said above, if you disable animations through gconf-editor, the drawer shows up, just in the wrong place. To solve that problem, I've taken to forcing the drawer to the right place using Compiz's force window feature. -

Hi, I made some more testing. The three-click-to-open and the slowness when opening happens when using Beryl as window manager. When using Metacity all is good. So this looks like a Beryl interaction problem. Again, reproducible 100% of the time in different machines. Should I open a bug against B
