I don't see any record of relevant fixes in Unity 6.12 so that does not explain why I don't see the bug. Please try removing PPAs (with ppa-purge), at least those that are likely to relate to indicators: Stormcloud, Nitro, Nijel, Firefox-beta, Pidgin. If we can find one of them is responsible the

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 too, but my unity-panel-service is 13.9MB and hud-service 2.6MB. Although I have upgraded to Unity 6.12 early. That might be one factor. The bigger factor is likely non-standard libraries, like custom indicators. Have you installed any non-standard indicators? What is the
