There is several other applet in the package not using
libgnomevfs2-extra and Recommends should be installed by default in the
next cycles which will fix the issue

I was bitten by this today when upgrading from edgy to feisty.
Installing libgnomevfs2-extra fixed it. I think I agree with Klaus
here. If the applet does not work at all without libgnomevfs2-extra, it
should be in depends not recommends.

libgnomevfs2-extra is a Recommends, which mean it should be installed by
default and can be removed. It's also a Depends of ubuntu-desktop.
Closing that's not a bug, if you decide to change from the stock
installation you have to consider Recommends and install them when you
need one

No, I did not. I installed libgnomevfs2-extra and now the weather applet
works. Thanks a lot.
Shouldn't libgnomevfs2-extra be a dependency of gnome-applets?
