Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue

Thanks for replying. There is a file named alsa already in the /etc
directory so I can't use that name. Here is the error:
"mkdir: `/etc/alsa/dev.d/': Not a directory"
I tried in nautilus (as root) but was also denied.
I've posted another bug report specifically on alsa-base. Hopefully that
will
You could try to workaround this error with:
$ sudo mkdir -p /etc/alsa/dev.d/
$ sudo touch /etc/alsa/dev.d/alsa-base
and then run update-manager again

With repeated attempts I was able to get Feisty installed. There are two
ALSA updates in Update Manager. When trying to install them I get the
following error:
"E: /var/cache/apt/archives/alsa-base_1.0.13-3ubuntu1_all.deb: subprocess
pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: /var/ca
What can I do to get this upgrade to work. Edgy is somewhat flaky, now.
There are 352 updates listed in update-manager and the upgrade button
for Feisty is gone. I don't know if I should DL these updates. Edgy was
up to date before attempting the upgrade.
What about just updating the ALSA files?
Here is what causes the error:
Preparing to replace alsa-base 1.0.11-5ubuntu1 (using
