I ran into this exact problem as well on two different systems: Ubuntu server
7.04 AMD64 and kubuntu desktop 7.10 i386. I installed vncserver on both using
apt-get:
sudo apt-get install vncserver
Any attempt to start a vncserver exited with "Fatal server error: could
not open default font 'fixe
Solution suggestions:
1. Install xfs and xfonts-base, start xfs afterwards
2. Edit /etc/vnc.conf and add the line '$fontPath = "unix/:7100"'
This is a problem on nearly most linux distributions I have seen. I do
not know if Ubuntu should fix this by doing these dependencies into the
vncserver pac
Here is the vncserver log file.
