it works on the MBP 6,2 now with kernel 3.8.0.28
However I have a similar issue with a MacBook Pro with Retina display
(15").
In order to get the machine to sleep, I have to open system settings /
power management and just click on the button to sleep when the lid is
closed.
This does the trick.
Wolf Rogner, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from

I found a workaround:
When the machine refuses to go to sleep I open system settings -> power
management
I set and reset the action on lid close to nothing and then suspend
This works reliably.
Then I have three sleeps free and the procedure starts again.

I a problem on MBP 6,2 that might be related. When I close the lid, it
seems as it suspends, but then it never resumes but behaves as if it
restarts. I'm not sure it's really a restart as i think i once noticed a
process I didn't expect to be running on a fresh start (a program i ran
myself). In an
Suspend to RAM works for 3 times (sometimes it takes about 2 mins to go to
sleep though)
Then the machine just turns off its screen but keeps running (usually heating
up the case)

After resume the menu has disappeared

I just realised and verified that using the suspend menu is a one time
wonder workaround.
After using the menu it disappears on the next resume.
Maybe it gets totally consumed by the process of setting the machine to
sleep.
