I just tried the test in the original post and I don't see any problem under
Karmic with Compiz running.
No idea how to "attach an arrow" though.

Well it'd be nice to have a screenshot to have an example of what's
wrong here, but it's likely a notification-daemon problem, seeing as
libnotify just sends the message.

I can confirm that bubbles are being drawn badly when they have an arrow
attached to them (in any position)
Feisty, 1280x800 mobility radeon, beryl, if that's any use ;)
