than that still use grub legacy. At any rate, the menu you posted
clearly shows kernel version 3.8.0-19-generic.

I meant /boot/grub/grub.cfg, but based on what you said, you appear to
be running grub-legacy. In that case it would be /boot/grub/menu.lst.

Please post the grub version and config ( preferably after updating it )
on a machine that is still showing it.
A while back we changed to simply showing "Ubuntu" as the default entry
and hiding older kernels, which show their versions in an "advanced"
submenu.

Then it is still a bug due to inconsistency, as I have multiple machines
running 12.10, and only one of them does not show kernel versions.
