for me, i fixed it by goign to system>preferences>session and looking
for matacity in the "current session " tab. ANd in ther ei changed the
order to 50, mine was a lot higher before

I have the same problem and it is really annoying. If need be I could

I want to confirm this. I originally had compiz which after update to 7.04 not
started . But here
I had the effect that after 2-3 minutes the compiz-wm comes up. Now I switched
to metacity, and the wm don't start at all

I've got the same behavior today after second reboot since dist-upgrade
on Thursday (2007-04-19).
There is a trace of it in my /var/log/apport.log:

My .xsession-errors is totally, utterly spammed out with crap from
Evolution and co. :(
I have logged in about 6 times since this started happening, and on one
occasion Metacity did actually start OK. How rare.
