Parted 1.8.8 works fine and fixed the error for me. I hope this will
make it into Hardy/Intrepid

The server was originally running Ubuntu Gutsy but i upgraded it to
Ubuntu Hardy hoping this issue would be fixed but it made no difference
whatsoever.
This is on a x86_64 system.

Hello. I have also just resized a RAID volume and too experienced this
problem.
Reading through the debian bugreport ExplodingLemur posted it seems that
it's fixed in latest gparted version.
Here is the output of parted:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# parted /dev/sdb
GNU Parted 1.7.1
Using /dev/sdb
