Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I tested it on Ubuntu 24.04:

usr/lib/modules/6.8.0-45-generic/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-generic.ko.zst
```
So hid-generic is included. I am marking this bug as fixed
@rodsmith there is a load of bugs like this, I am going to compile the
kernel myself as you did to fix the problem.

[xorg-edgers] hid_gen
I'm not 100% positive I'm seeing the exact same issue, but I think I am.
In my case, the xorg-edgers PPA is not installed, though. I've got a
12.04.3 installation on a Lenovo Ideapad laptop with an encrypted root
filesystem. When I boot with a stock kernel, I'm able to type my
encrypted filesystem
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
