I am terribly sorry I can not test it any more right know I am running
ubuntu 13.04 and using "gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio" but I wan to point out
that cheese does not crashes on this system any more

Thanks for reporting this bug and making Ubuntu better.
Please check if this if related to bug 1062282. A workaround suggested
there is to install
sudo apt-get install gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio
see if this also fixes the current bug.
