I'm sorry, you're right, there's an --auto-remove option indeed, and it's not
shown when you type "apt-get --[TAB]".
I can confirm this is still present in gutsy, bash version 3.2-0ubuntu8.

Thanks for attention, but ... there is definitely an --auto-remove
option (and it was since edgy) and is is even documented in man (as of
feisty).

Thanks for your bug report. There's no --auto-remove option for apt-get.
There's an autoremove command (apt-get autoremove), but it will not
autocomplete your package names until the bug caused by fix for bug
#60666 gets fixed.
