Good news! I managed to solve the problem by removing all compiz gconf configurations: rm -R ~/.gconf/apps/compiz/ Now desktop effects is working perfectly. Maybe there where some bad gconf configurations at my system preventing compiz to work well. -- Desktop Effects makes window-borders disap

The reccomended way to install the nvidia drivers now is to use the restricted drivers manager because it will do the "AddARGBGLXVisuals" for you. Are you still having this problem? If so, try running "sudo nvidia- xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals" and then restarting X (or rebooting). ** Changed i
