Now we should look towards the next Ubuntu versions with Unity. There
should be an easy way to configure the Unity desktop behaviour and
desktop effects.

definitely, except make it CCSM. Users should be able to select
"Advanced Desktop Effects Settings" and enable or disable individual
plugins. trying to reduce all of that into one or two options goes
against the "flexibility" goal of Ubuntu
