I would love to change it, and definitely would, given the opportunity.
However, I am not familar enough with linux/ubuntu to know where the base
image for the volume control is located. If I had that information, I would
gladly change it :)

Thank you for your bug. That's not a bug, there is no need to complicate
the code and add extra settings and gconf keys for that. If you don't
want composite being used don't use a composite manager. If you don't
like the composite version of the dialog, better to improve it than to
add a setting t

Agreed. If it is part of gnome-settings, there should be gconf settings
to control it. It is quite too large (although if it was smaller it
would look great).
