Good job guys! I don't know who had to do the hard work but I would like
to thank Joseph Salisbury for his very courteous communication regarding
the issue. It brings me great pleasure to have been involved in a tiny
part of Ubuntu and Linux kernel development.

The commit is actually the first one _after_ -rc7, so -rc7 still has the
oops when booting.

Thanks for the good news, Eric. It looks like that commit is in
v3.5-rc7, so it should make it in to Quantal when we rebase to -rc7,
which should be today.

With the latest version of the Kernel, it works for me: Linus has just merged a
fix!

I compiled and booted kernel 3.5.0-3-generic_3.5.0-3.3_i386, and the
problem with the gma500_gfx module persists.

I have a feeling the gma500_gfx module might not be compiled in the
Ubuntu kernel. I am building a custom kernel to test this assumption
right now, but my poor netbook is very slow. :-) I will report back with
the results. The kernel in question is the latest quantal kernel with
gma500 and suboptio
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream
Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to
the bug.

Yes, I did that. Same failure, but a better screenshot of the stack

Would it be possible for you to test the Quantal kernel on Precise? If
so, it can be downloaded from:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/3.5.0-2.2/+build/3607404
You would need to install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra
.deb packages.

Precise works well on this machine, except that the mouse pointer
flickers. I am not able to test recovery mode for Quantal because I used
a USB-stick, and it does not offer a recovery mode. I'm not willing to
partition my netbook yet just for the sake of testing, I'm sorry. I

It's the Poulsbo driver that crashes, one of the functions close to one
end of the stack is psb_init. The stack trace scrolls too fast for me to
be able to take a picture. But I'll describe you in writing what is
happening.
