Dirk Townsend, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from

For Ivy Bridge, see

Same here, 5th freeze only this day.
It was starting when I have changed my machine to a Lenovo T530, by swapping
disk containing a Precise install.
It is not just quite annoying, it makes work nearly impossible.
I have switched from compiz to classic gnome with no effects, with no

I am still affected by this bug. It seems random and intermittent and
boy is it annoying. Everything freezes and I have to reboot. It does
seem to be less frequent since I updated my motherboard BIOS though I

Steve,
Sorry, you are correct the system was not upgraded. It is a fresh
install of 12.04.
I only used the word "upgrade" because yesterday, I was running 11.10
and decided to move to 12.04, though I did so via a fresh install.
Thanks for reviewing this bug.

Please clarify what you were upgrading from and when the instability
began. The dpkg log attached to your bug report shows that you
installed several compiz-related packages today (compiz-plugins, compiz-
