This bug is Opinion. It's an opinion that I agree with. I don't like the
HUD using Alt either, but it has been explicitly designed that way.

I now understand what you mean since I face a very similar issue with
the alt+backarrow key in browsers. I am going to keep this report
incomplete and add ayatana-design as affects to this bug report that we
could get feedback from design on the issue.

Sorry it took me a while to respond. It's mostly an issue when I'm in
the process of hitting Alt+Tab or Alt+` and then decide that I've
changed my mind and I let go of Alt. Instead of nothing happening, the
HUD appears which is not what I would expect.
