U're wrong. The easiest is to adjust the brightness of
gnome-power-preference to 0%.
By the way, bios update solves the problem.

The easiest way is to create a freedos USB disk with Unetbootin. Two clicks
and done.
It solved the flickering and the scalling problem of my N280 Wind U123.
Unfortunable, it is now only tree levels from 1Ghz to 1.67 and not four from
800 to 1.67Ghz.

If you are the only user, is it too dificult to disable at system,
preferences, gnome-session-properties?
Isn't xfce4-power-manager better?

I've a MSI Wind U123-003 here, and its atheros (ath9k), not Realtek.
The wireless range is very good with 9.10. Far better than 9.04.

As a U123 user I can tell, with no irony here, that the best
"workaround" is a regression to 9.04. And I think that MSI Wind users
should be advised in the release note to remain on Ubuntu 9.04 instead
of upgrading to 9.10.
If you set a nomodeset parameter at boot you can hide the problem, but

Guido,
This nomodeset "workaround" dont solve the problem. It just hide it a little.
Yes, when the X start there are no more flickering, but, if you lift you will
see your screen flickering again.
So, I think it need a high importance here, cause lot of MSI users will
be affected.

Its a realy shame this bug for the average user. The netbook got completly
**unusable**. Dosn't it an impressive reason?
By the way, the average user dont know what is a "release note". At the least
ubuntu should mention it.
