weird, in 10.04 (64 with amd chip and nvidia chipset) it worked just
fine. then i took my laptop apart, put it back together, and then from
then on i had to hit the wireless button when i started up. i'd hit it
and a few seconds later my wireless would come on. this was still with
10.04.
now, i
i have this same bug. i tried reinstalling the packages, etc. no dice.

I have this bug too, making me nuts. amd64 karmic 9.10. dual core amd,
ati 780G chipset. fully up to date.
memory usage in nautilis just keeps climbing, without doing anything.
goes way beyond 500megs, but i usually stop it there. should be 10 megs
or something.
surely not solved.

we installed 64bit ubuntu 9.10 on an amd64 system with ATI graphics
integrated into a 780g chipset. it displayed just fine on the standard
video drivers, but when we installed the proprietary video drivers
ubuntu suggested and rebooted, then it would not display the screen.

have this problem on 9.10 fresh install, amd64.
gedit spell check picks up not just plurals, some other conjugations
too.
how can i fix this?

when i disable all the animations and effects, but keep compiz on, its
just choppy but doesn't black screen. sound is choppy too, huh?

yeah i have this same problem. video is on an ati 3xxx integrated
chipset.
video starts off real choppy and then when you got o full screen, it
goes to the black screen.
i'm running jaunty 64bit on an amd chip with hp pavilion dv4, 1320.
with compiz on it dies, with compiz off it works. maybe
gotcha, so i can't tell, is it getting fixed?

all the same hardware worked perfectly in 7.04 and broke in 7.10.
monitor also worked on a friends 7.10 box. so i figure its the video
card drivers.

sure, there is a balance.
and there are more important bugs to fix. thats why this one has been open
for 5+ years. still, i believe that maybe theres a better way to do it?
this bug can easily be fixed in 15 minutes by the person who wrote this code
in the first place. is that who would normall
i wasnt the first one to file it. so that makes it at least 2 years
old.
i'm using the latest version of synaptic and its still not fixed.

yeah, i was using XFS, that was teh problem. last time i used a different
FS.
on distrowatch it says that kubuntu supports reiserfs, but why doesnt it
come up in the list of FS's i can use to format my drive with during the
install?

i have since tried it 3 or 4 times from scratch and it happens every
time. cannot install kubuntu.
it happens at the very end of installing the bootloader, or the very
begining of the next phase. i say that since the last thing i see
before the installer crashes is the bootloader at %96 done.
