Any recent update on this? I am using Ubuntu 14.04 and still not able to
change Gedit shortcut.

I found what the issue was, it is something related to qt-config. The issue is
something to do with qt4-qtconfig package. Please check it out and fix it.

I am also facing a similar problem. I can see the save box but it is not
actually not saving it. I have the write permissions and space to write
the playlist but still it is not saving it. I have tried it in different
places also but to no effect.
My VLC version is 1.0.2 (goldeneye) and Ubuntu 9.1
