I have a NC10, BIOS 11CA, and cannot reproduce this problem. Out-of-the-box
clean install of beta2, then updated. Brightness keys just work.
If I can provide any information to further identify the bug, let me know.

Updated Karmic works fine. It started to work somewhere around (ie a

Running 9.04 amd64 here, I did the following:
$ sudo aptitude remove partimage
$ wget

$ dpkg -i partimage_0.6.7-2_amd64.deb
(downloaded from squueze repository, installed without errors).

Using KDE4 isn't an option in the specified case, as it's not possible
to upgrade to it during a gutsy->hardy upgrade.
Therefor, the bug shouldn't be marked fixed, but marked WONTFIX, as all
efforts seem to go to intrepid instead. In which case it's a known error
that should be included in the rel
OK, running xdg-user-dirs didn't fix it for me at first, came back with
an error ('Can't write'). Turned out that somehow ~/.config was owned by
root. chown fixed that, then running xdg-user-dirs and log-out/log-in,
and everything works now.

I have the same problem on same release. I'm running old Pentium-3
system. since then, no network. I'm not a Linux expert but lot of
debugging experience. let me know what to check and I'll send the
results.

Same problem with a NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A. Changing the permissions as
per Nelsons suggestion did fix the problem.
I might add that as a workaround I burned from the commandline using
sudo without problems. So it does seem to be a permission problem. This
happens on a fully up-to-date Feisty 32bit,
