I have this problem as well. I am using 9.10 with full updates applied
as of the time of this writing.
I seem to have no problem authenticating any other actions. I have even
tried creating a test account, but that didn't change anything either.
In addition, I tried the old "xhost +" and "sudo su
Well, I tried 9.04 in vmware (slightly older version), but my tablet
wasn't showing up in the vmware usb devices. I will have to wait until I
can reformat another machine and test on some bare metal. Sorry about
that.

I will have to download a newer ISO of ubuntu and test it again to see
if the pressure tip feature works now. Hopefully my batteries still work
for it.
I an downloading the 9.04 x86 desktop iso as I write this. I will
hopefully have more to report about the status of the tablet by days
end.

mouse, but lacks any sort of accuracy (looses tracking making tracing of
images useless) and has no pressure sensitivity (on or off, no in
