It seems to work for packages which are available in Ubuntu Software
Center (I've tried with Launchpad), but it does not work with Web sites
which directly implement Unity Webapps integration.
The probem can also be reproduced with the official Quickstart :

No, I don't think that this is due to the same issue as bug 1307904. I've
looked at it before filing the bug...
The workaround provided by jibel works like a charm.
I just had to remove libsmbclient:i386 to be able to perform the upgrade
without a hitch!

I'm sorry, but I thought that the bug reporting tool had joined the
stacktrace. I'm not sure that it is the same crash. Anyway, I didn't get
the problem anymore ! It occured just once after my upgrade to Ubuntu
8.04 (first launch only). Now everything works fine !
