Every thing works as expected when plugging in my usb harddisk, but
after a couple of minutes I get the message I/o error when trying to
read or write to this device.
First couple of minutes there is no problem reading and writing.

Extra info, It happens also when I turn off the pc. It seems that the
usb device remains busy. Could it be that the disk is not closed after
exiting? even after powering down I feel the External HD is still
working (lightly vibrating as if active).

I'd tried to solve my network problems after suspend, but it doesn't
work. Only rebooting helps.
After suspend my wired connection is unavailable. I tried wicd. choose
