Same issue on laptop MEDION Erazer x7831 with Nvidia GK104M [GeForce GTX
880M] on Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 2.4.6 64-bit. Nivdia driver is 340.76.

I just have tried it and it's working again. The only thing I did are
the "normal" updates, so I do not know what fixed the problem. Ubuntu
12.10 (64-Bit), Gnome 3.6.0

disabling visual effects isn't the solution for me. nothing changed.
when i turn on the thumbnails again CPU is going up as before.

Nautilus consuming memory
I have the same problem. But when I open a folder only pdf-files have
the clock logo on them and also not all (but can not see any pattern
which has the logo or not).
