I have been seeing this bug on and off for at least several months, if
not a year. It is very intermittent, but when it does happen it is
painfully annoying especially because I usually must restart FF
completely to resolve the issue.

Weird... this happened to me too, except that I'm running Ubuntu 9.10
64-bit. Not sure when exactly it stopped working though, as I don't use
the num pad every day. I definitely did not enable the 'Mouse Keys'
option myself, though. I noticed the num pad had randomly stopped
working about a week

After further investigation, this could be cause by a faulty hard drive.

I am using Gnome running Windows XP in virtualbox OSE. I don't really
use it for other os' except on rare occasion, so I can't say if it's an
issue with Windows only.

1. Open a terminal window and type "sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf"

I just performed the above requested command, but it looks like apport
