I had this problem when I had headphones connected to the front jack and
simultaneously the line out at the back connected to my amp.
I solved it by using hda-jack-retask that Raymond mentioned above. Using
advanced override I set "Green Headphone, Front side" > "Jack detection"
to "Not present".

I found the error. It appeared to be Firestarter that was blocking the
connection to archive.ubuntu.com when "Block traffic from reserved
addresses on public interfaces" was set (which seems like a bug to me -
it doesn't happen in Feisty though). I tried several times so set and
unset that setting
I can confirm this on Edgy. It also happens with this svg file:

I can't seem to reproduce this anymore. Although I am not sure since it
only happened occasionally before, but at least it has not happened for
a long time now.

I pressed the mouse button down on a link and dragged it. The mouse
pointer turned into a "plus" sign and firefox crashed.
The same thing has happened before when clicking and dragging but it
usually does not.
