Lonnie, I have this same laptop. When booting the 3.14 or higher
kernels, you don't get a screen freeze at boot unless running
"nomodeset" or the proprietary Nvidia drivers? I boot with the kernel
mode nomodeset, but then I don't have any way to control brightness.
